Community Heart Project
The Community Heart Project has now come to a close. The Community Heart Project was a huge success with numerous amounts of participants benefiting from this great initiative. It was an absolute pleasure to work with the Irish Heart Foundation on this project and we would like to thank the many participants, the facilitators and the Irish Heart Foundation for their time, effort and support.
Raheen Community Heart Project is the result of a collaboration of Raheen Family Resource Centre and Irish Heart Foundation.
Raheen Community Heart Project is actively involved in helping people to live longer, healthier and happier through organising a range of activities from physical activities, health campaigns and healthy cooking courses.
Irish Heart’s Community Heart Projects Co-ordinator Georgina Buffini said: “Our programme helps us to empower communities to live life better by adopting a healthier approach to food and physical activity in order to help reduce heart disease and stroke and improve overall health outcomes”.
The core elements of the project are encouraging those who might not ordinarily have access to fresh food to embark on a journey from seed to dinner table by growing and cooking their own produce in their community garden, as well as education sessions on nutrition and physical activity, budgeting, food labelling and healthy food shopping.
