Senior Alert Scheme
The objective of the Seniors Alert Scheme is to encourage community support for vulnerable older people in our communities through the provision of personal monitored alarms to enable older persons to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind.
How does it work?
Older people get a free personal alarm or pendant. The alarm can be worn as a pendant or around the wrist like a watch. When pressed it connects wirelessly to a base unit, usually attached to a phone. The base unit immediately sends a call to a 24 hour monitoring centre.
How do you get an alarm?
Simply contact us here at Raheen Family Resource Centre on 051 442888 and we will apply on your behalf. Contact Bridget or Treve for more information or to apply on 051 442888
Can I make an application on behalf of another person?
Yes. You can contact us on behalf of a loved or neighbour. However, the application details must be in that person’s name.
How much will it cost?
It’s free. The equipment is funded through the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government and administered by Pobal. The first year of monitoring the alarm is free.
Who is eligible to apply for an alarm?
A person is eligible is he or she is:
- Aged 65 or older;
- Living alone, living with another person who meets the eligibility criteria;
- Resides within the catchment area of Raheen Family Resource Centre;
How long will it take for the equipment to be installed?
We will apply to Pobal on your behalf. Once your application has been approved by Pobal, we will contact the designated supplier to arrange installation. The equipment will be installed as soon as possible.
